SIDA; Sports Initiative Development Academy is a training and coaching academy for
young players seeking to develop initiative and sports skills. Our focus is on the
‘Complete individual,’ so at SIDA we do not just teach basketball, we aim to develop
the whole person – building the necessary motor skills, confidence, resilience, leadership and more. Overall, positive role models.
SIDA was established with the intention to provide quality coaching to junior basketballers and fair opportunities for females to advance at the game.
Upon noticing a wide-range of players lacking fundamental basketball skills, often due to the players receiving coaching from untrained sources, we felt the need for a solution. The SIDA Academy lives to better equip players with the right skills and knowledge through the provision of professional coaches and elite basketball programs.
The gender inequality in sport is a key initiative for us. Did you know that animal
sports receive more tv time than female sports? Evidence also shows that gender
inequality has significant impact on young athletes; such as lower self-esteem, body
image issues, and a higher number of female dropouts in sports. Our programs aim to
close the gap and provide support avenues for young girls.
